Music Together Online!
Musical immersion, family fun, engaging teachers, and lots of laughter- in the comfort of your home!
Please be sure to read the section below about
screen time and adult involvement.
A Santa Rosa family enjoys Music Together Online with a song led by our Director, Ginger, and her son. This program is wonderful for families to connect musically, and keep their children's musical development supported while keeping safe from Covid-19 exposure.
Ginger teaches a Zoom class. These classes allow children freedom to be in their own homes, and move about as they need to, while they and their families engage with music-making. We limit the number of Zoom boxes on the screen to 16, so we can see everyone and better engage with the children.
What is Music Together Online?
...Musical fun and connection at home!
With Music Together Online, you get the same high-quality music and movement curriculum loved by millions of families and teachers around the world—from home!
During each live Zoom class, our teachers will lead activities for you and your whole family to sing, play, and jam along to.
And, you'll find that you have plenty items around your house to make music with- the teachers will show you how to make everyday items like dish towels, pots, spoons, and stuffed animals into musical instruments and props! Scroll down to see what our families have said about the online program.
Mixed Age/Babies Only classes will be using the Harmonica Collection
MIXED AGE and BABIES ONLY ONLINE
Six weeks this summer, beginning the week of July 5
Babies Only Online is appropriate for parents with babies 0-9 months old. The way we teach, parents are the ones looking at the screen- baby doesn't have to have any screen time at all. Babies can just look at their important grown ups while they are sung to, and played with musically. This class will be held on Tuesdays at 11:45 AM. More about Babies Only here.
At least one weekly 40-minute Zoom class led by a trained and experienced early childhood music educator. Additional Zoom classes may be attended also, to be scheduled by you whenever you want an additional class. (Babies Only families are welcome to attend mixed age classes too.)
A dedicated "Family Portal" page on our website with access to supplemental content throughout the session.
Occasional pre-recorded "bonus" videos, that you can access any time. These might include a favorite song done a special way, musical crafts, lullabies, song covers, parent education, and more.
A weekly special Zoom experience: Singalong Storybook/Lullaby Time- every Wednesday at 6:45!
Printables and other downloadable family resources, including coloring pages and musical games.
Harmonica Song Collection materials (songbook, CD, download code). This summer, we will be arranging local pick up locations for the materials. We will mail them to families who do not live locally.
Digital access to your music through both the Hello Everybody App (on a device) and the Family Music Zone (on a computer).
Wait, screen time?
We know screen time isn’t generally recommended for young children, but here’s the difference: YOU!
When children stare at a screen and passively receive information, they don’t take it in the same way nor do they learn in the same way as when they have the active participation of a caregiver or parent. So, just like in our classes, you’re still the most important part. A teacher will be on the screen, but it is truly the interaction of the parent/caregiver with the child that will support their music development! We will give you lots of fun activities and ideas to do at home!
Also, please remember, children do not generally sit still! We don’t expect them to do so in class, so please don’t expect them to at home! You just keep making music with the teacher on the screen, follow along, and have faith your child is getting a ton of info and education from your involvement, even if they move about the room!
What do families say about Music Together Online?
“We are enjoying the zoom classes. I think you all are doing such a great job adapting the program. Really, I feel like we are getting way more than our “money’s worth” with this new set up. We miss you, but love having you just a login away!”
~Veronica H, Windsor
"Whenever I say the word "music," Max goes "Ginger? Ginger!" and points to the TV."
~Marc S, Santa Rosa
“The zoom classes with Star Tom are AWESOME!”
~Renee M, Healdsburg
"We are so grateful for all the work you have put into this! It gives us something to look forward to. It makes me feel great knowing he's getting some interactions with others and is continuing to learn about MUSIC! This just makes our days a little brighter.
~Amy S, Santa Rosa
I just have to express my appreciation for the effort you teachers have put into this!!! We have several other classes that are doing online offerings and this is, by FAR, the most organized, engaging, rich material in comparison. Isla usually won’t engage with any online class and it almost makes her more upset because she misses the real thing. But she loves these classes and we are so grateful for you Ginger, Ali and Star Tom! Thank you for creating something truly valuable for us to do at home ❤️
~Rachel W, Santa Rosa
"Hello MT crew! We just wanted to thank you all for the hard work and amazing classes you have been putting online! What a great way to support everyone during this time! It's such a joy to have a music break, most everyday- and our daughter LOVES the classes! Thank you for sharing all the classes with us, she now has THREE teachers to talk about and sing along to! Its been a special treat to see the "extras" ...She woke up the other morning and the first thing she asked for was "taker" = home made toilet paper shaker!"
~Christi S, Santa Rosa
